Summary

Will the real Duke of Wyndham please stand up?

Jack Audley has been a highwayman。 A soldier。 And he has always been a rogue。 What he is not, and never wanted to be, is a peer of the realm, responsible for an ancient heritage and the livelihood of hundreds。 But when he is recognized as the long-lost son of the House of Wyndham, his carefree life is over。 And if his birth proves to be legitimate, then he will find himself with the one title he never wanted: Duke of Wyndham。

Grace Eversleigh has spent the last five years toiling as the companion to the dowager Duchess of Wyndham。 It is a thankless job, with very little break from the routine。。。 until Jack Audley lands in her life, all rakish smiles and debonair charm。 He is not a man who takes no for an answer, and when she is in his arms, she's not a woman who wants to say no。 But if he is the true duke, then he is the one man she can never have。。。

2。5 rounded up。 I really enjoyed the last Julia Quinn book I read, so I had high hopes for this one。 Sadly, there was insta-love and not a wonderful or strong story。 Since there is only one more book in the series and it focuses on a couple also present in this book, I will read it。

I love this book, Jack is so charming and swoony。 This has been one of my favorite books for years。 I love it so much! I really hope it finds it's way to audible some day。Julia Quinn is fantastic! This is my least favorite Julia Quinn book, but for books, in general, it was very unsatisfying。 If you plan on reading both in the Duke series, don't。 Mr。 Cavendish, I Presume is the much better of the two。 Telling the story from two POVs had the potential to be interesting but it just ended up being hearing the same conversations/descriptions redundantly。 What pushed this book further into disappointment were the characters。 Grace alternated from being giddy (to the point of not being able to This is my least favorite Julia Quinn book, but for books, in general, it was very unsatisfying。 If you plan on reading both in the Duke series, don't。 Mr。 Cavendish, I Presume is the much better of the two。 Telling the story from two POVs had the potential to be interesting but it just ended up being hearing the same conversations/descriptions redundantly。 What pushed this book further into disappointment were the characters。 Grace alternated from being giddy (to the point of not being able to concentrate and then snort frequently) to cowering, despite the implication that she has grace under pressure。 Jack has no empathy for anyone but Grace。 The book builds him up to be immature and by the time he reaches the point he grows up, it just doesn't seem enough to erase the +300 pages of him being a cad。 Ugh, this book was such a drag。 。。。more

Before reading this book, I knew it was part of a duet where Julia Quinn was trying something new - same timeline but different POV for each books main characters and love story。 I found the writing to be weak, Julia’s scenes with multiple people and personalities were strongest。 (Like the mallet of death as a favorite in Bridgerton)。 Much of the lining between the h/H fell flat IMO, I just couldn’t find a way into the characters and root for their HEA。 That said, Julia is still a fav & auto-buy Before reading this book, I knew it was part of a duet where Julia Quinn was trying something new - same timeline but different POV for each books main characters and love story。 I found the writing to be weak, Julia’s scenes with multiple people and personalities were strongest。 (Like the mallet of death as a favorite in Bridgerton)。 Much of the lining between the h/H fell flat IMO, I just couldn’t find a way into the characters and root for their HEA。 That said, Julia is still a fav & auto-buy for me! 。。。more

I thought this was okay。 It seemed like it might be one of her earlier novels。 It was fun and definitely amusing, but it didn't have as much plot tension as a book usually has。 Jack was fun。 (As usually, ofc, there is a scene or two to skip。) I thought this was okay。 It seemed like it might be one of her earlier novels。 It was fun and definitely amusing, but it didn't have as much plot tension as a book usually has。 Jack was fun。 (As usually, ofc, there is a scene or two to skip。) 。。。more

I liked that the story of this book is the same as in Julia Quinn's "Mr。 Cavendish, I Presume"。 However, it is told from the perspective different characters involved in the plot。 I appreciate having an alternative perspective regarding the events that transpire in the storyline of the two books。 I liked that the story of this book is the same as in Julia Quinn's "Mr。 Cavendish, I Presume"。 However, it is told from the perspective different characters involved in the plot。 I appreciate having an alternative perspective regarding the events that transpire in the storyline of the two books。 。。。more

I needed something light to read while sitting around with a cold (they still exist!)。 This was on sale for 1。99 and light。 There was promise with the plot, but it feels like it was written earlier than some of Quinn’s other works。 Lots of stealing kisses; it doesn’t age so well。 The characters seemed much younger than their ages as well。 Anyway, it was ok。 I don’t think I’ll rush to read the companion book—maybe someday from the library。

Reliable regency romance, not Quinn’s best, but still enjoyable。 part 2 downloaded on my kindle。

The Regency novels of Julia Quinn are always delightful, frothy fun。

Yvette Boessneck

Cute fluffy historical romance。

The plot was juicy!!! Jack and Grace make a cute couple。 And I like heroes like Jack, so usually don’t take themselves too seriously (even though his humor was a defense mechanism)。 Still, I kind of wish they didn’t fall for each other so quickly, and the book spent a bit more time on them getting to know each other。

On to the next Julia Quinn duet book series, as I am still waiting for the second Bridgerton book from the library。 I have been trying to stay in the genre and I guess I may finish all her books this summer as I wait (currently 7 of 9 for book 2)。 I have noticed that these historical romance novels all have a formula that they follow ---the stories just have different characters and plots。 This book was very predictable for me, but still enjoyed the story。 Right now, I am looking for light, airy On to the next Julia Quinn duet book series, as I am still waiting for the second Bridgerton book from the library。 I have been trying to stay in the genre and I guess I may finish all her books this summer as I wait (currently 7 of 9 for book 2)。 I have noticed that these historical romance novels all have a formula that they follow ---the stories just have different characters and plots。 This book was very predictable for me, but still enjoyed the story。 Right now, I am looking for light, airy reads and these books fill that need。 This had all the Quinn whittiness to it。 The dowager is sure what seems a heartless character, obviously the previous things in her life have made her bitter and she let that bitterness take hold。 Overall, I would say the characters in this novel were more 2-dimensional than her other books, so you feel like you are reading about them, but not really getting to know them。 Again, this is a great vacation book that you can read quickly with little effort。 。。。more

I picked this up and just couldn’t stop reading。 Loved the chemistry between Jack and Grace, the cantankerous Dowager, the lovely supporting characters。 I loved Jack’s unwavering feelings for Grace despite her fear。 A lovely read。

Doing a mass update of titles I've read in the past and came across this which was my first ever HR read!! I love Julia Quinn's novels, but I wasn't a huge fan of this one。。I love the theory of the 2 interconnected stories happening at the same time, but the execution was lacking。 Maybe it was that the story had too much Dowager, but I struggled to connect to Grace and Jack's relationship。 I enjoyed each character individually, and the scene in Jack's uncle's study nearly brought me to tears, but I didn't feel them as a couple。 I also was shocked when the story ended when it did! Nothing better on a cold and rainy weekend than to curl up with a Julia Quinn Regency romance。 This one was delightful。

The first book of this series is so good! The second, however, falls a little flat。 Not because the writing or story line isn’t good, but because both books occur during the same time and therefore scenes are repeated。 My suggestion to any Julia Quinn fans is to still read the series, but read both books at the same time。 Figure out how to alternate between the two so the chapters line up。 Treat it like a single book instead of a two book series and you’ll be much more satisfied。

Erin

Lame and tame though I’m debating the second only because it’s Julia Quinn。

Loved it!! Great drama, intrigue, suspense, and of course, romance。
